Dental composite resin product summary and development trend analysis

According to the report of the fourth national oral health epidemiological survey, the rate of caries in China is high, with the rates of caries in the four age groups of 5-year-old children, 12-year-old children, adults aged 35-44 years, and the elderly aged 65-74 years being 71.9%, 34.5%, 89.0%, and 98.0%, respectively;

But the rates of caries filling and treatment are low, with the rates of 4.1%, 16.5%, 26.6%, and 12.8%, and there is a serious imbalance between caries rates and treatment rates for all age groups.

However, the rate of caries filling treatment was low at 4.1%, 16.5%, 26.6% and 12.8% respectively, resulting in a serious imbalance between the rate of caries and the rate of treatment in each age group.

However, as people’s living standards and modern medical technology continue to improve, people’s concern for the health and aesthetics of their teeth has gradually deepened, the demand for caries treatment has gradually expanded, and the demand for restorative dental materials has also increased.

Because of its biocompatibility, aesthetics, low cost and easy plasticity, dental resin materials have been widely used to replace silver amalgam in clinical caries treatment for restoration of dental defects in recent years. A new generation of flowable resins that can directly fill and repair defective surfaces, block-filling composite resins, aesthetic resins and self-adhesive resins have also been gradually applied to dental restorations, expanding the scope of application of composite resins, and at the same time, the requirements for clinical operations tend to be more refined.

Dental Resin Development Trends

Future research on composite resins will start from the following aspects:

(1) Modification of the resin by changing its components and updating the production process, with a view to achieving high performance;

(2) Adding the appropriate amount of additives in the composite resin, such as antimicrobial agents, remineralisation materials, etc., to give the material new functions, such as antimicrobial, remineralisation, and self-repairing function, to prevent secondary caries, and to promote the adhesive interface and filling materials and re-repair;

(3) Aiming at the shortcomings and deficiencies of a certain performance of the resin material, combined with other materials to give play to the advantages of their respective performance, to achieve the composite material. Although there are a lot of functional composite resin research results, but the transformation into clinical applications is still small.

Clinical translation of scientific research has always been our goal, and we believe that with unremitting efforts, we will eventually achieve the clinical translation of the relevant research to further enhance the performance of dental composite resins to better meet market requirements.

In addition, the data show that the R&D usage rate and market share of domestic resins are relatively low, and the domestic substitution needs to be further strengthened.
