Classification and General use

Dentistry, as a relatively independent department in the medical industry, is slightly different from other departments in the hospital. It is a department that relies almost entirely on fine manual operations. It requires doctors to be able to easily control various operations in a narrow oral cavity, and It is a very delicate operation, such as gum treatment, tooth extraction, tooth repair, etc.

Now let’s introduce what gloves dentists use and the precautions when using them~

Disposable medical gloves can be divided into disposable medical sterilized surgical gloves and disposable medical examination gloves.
According to the specification requirements, the indications for wearing gloves are:

① Surgical gloves: When performing sterile operations and contacting patients’ damaged skin and mucous membranes, such as surgical operations, vaginal delivery, radiological interventional surgery, central venous catheterization, etc.

② Examination gloves: when coming into contact with patients’ blood, body fluids, secretions and items contaminated by body fluids, such as intravenous injections, intravenous catheter extubation, gynecological examinations, handling of used medical devices or medical waste contaminated by blood or body fluids, etc.

Selection of dental gloves

Because the instruments used by dentists are more delicate and sharp, wearing gloves requires more attention:

  1. Not easy to be punctured: Because the instruments used in the oral cavity, such as oral knives, chisels, tweezers, clamps, needles, etc., are sharp, they are not easy to be punctured and can better protect hands and prevent infectious diseases.
  2. Easy to operate sensitively: At the same time, the instrument is relatively small and easy to hold for a long time without fatigue.

Therefore, disposable examination gloves, such as disposable latex examination gloves, can be used for some basic operations in dental clinics, such as cleaning utensils and simple oral examinations.
For oral surgeries that require delicate operations, such as implant surgeries, surgical gloves should be selected that are wear-resistant, puncture-resistant, and can effectively prevent slipping, such as powder-free latex surgical gloves.
In addition, if the skin on the hands of medical personnel is damaged, they must wear double gloves when performing diagnostic and treatment operations that may come into contact with the patient’s blood and body fluids.

Moreover, in the dental industry, powdered gloves may cause wound infection in the patient’s mouth. Therefore, healthier powder-free latex gloves are very popular and have gradually become a new trend in health and safety in the medical industry.
